Letter to the Editor
I thank you for the article (Issue 6, 2010) about my upcoming visit to The New School. Unfortunately, the quotation that you used regarding my insistence that it is important to recognize Hamas and Hezbollah as part of the global left was incomplete, misleading and falsifying. At the event in 2006 addressing the bombing of southern Lebanon, I gave a talk on non-violence, a topic that I address as well in both of my books regarding war: Precarious Life and Frames of War. My complete response to the question of whether both of those organizations were part of the Global Left was composed of three parts: (1) they they are part of the Global Left because they are anti-imperialist (2) like all parts of the Global Left, we all have to decide whether we accept or reject them, and (3) my own politics of non-violence would establish my clear differences with them. This view is consistent with all my writings and publications on this issue.
I hope you will find a way to print this correction.

Thank you,
